SUBSTANCE
Betahistine Dihydrochloride
Introducing Betaserc, a revolutionary medication featuring the active ingredient betahistine, specifically designed to combat vertigo. This debilitating condition manifests as dizziness and a disorienting sensation of movement in stationary environments. Betaserc works by improving blood flow in the brain, particularly within the inner ear, a vital part of our balance system, thereby effectively reducing dizziness.
Beyond vertigo, Betaserc is also effective for treating tinnitus (ringing in the ears) and Meniere's disease, a disorder that impacts the inner ear. While it significantly lessens the frequency and severity of vertigo episodes, it?s important to note that it cannot completely eliminate them.
PrecautionsBetaserc should be avoided in the following circumstances:
- If you're allergic to betahistine or similar medications.
- If you have a pheochromocytoma (an adrenal gland tumor).
Patients with asthma or gastric/duodenal ulcers should exercise extra caution when using this medication.
Use During Pregnancy and BreastfeedingBetaserc may be prescribed during pregnancy only if the benefits to the mother clearly outweigh any potential risks to the fetus, as safety data during pregnancy is limited. It's also unknown if Betaserc transfers into breast milk, so it's recommended to avoid breastfeeding while on this medication.
How to UseBetaserc is available in multiple dosage forms:
- Betaserc 8 mg
- Betaserc 16 mg
- Betaserc 24 mg
The standard starting dose is 8 mg, taken three times daily, with the possibility of increasing it up to 48 mg per day for optimal results. Note that Betaserc is not recommended for individuals under 18 years of age. Swallow the tablet whole without chewing, as this may compromise its effectiveness. For best results, take it after meals to minimize any stomach discomfort. This medication can be used for extended periods, ranging from 6 months to a year.
Should dizziness persist, it?s advisable to refrain from operating vehicles or machinery. Additionally, lifestyle modifications?such as quitting smoking, maintaining a balanced diet, and increasing physical activity?can significantly enhance vertigo management.
