Uses

Discover relief from knee pain caused by joint inflammation (osteoarthritis) with this effective medication. Ideal for individuals who have not found comfort through other treatments like acetaminophen, exercise, or physical therapy, this solution utilizes hyaluronate? a substance that naturally exists in your joints. Acting as both a lubricant and shock absorber, it helps facilitate smoother knee movement while significantly reducing discomfort.

How to Use Hyalgan

Before beginning your treatment with hyaluronate, and each time you receive a refill, be sure to read the Patient Information Leaflet provided by your healthcare professional. For any questions, don?t hesitate to reach out to your doctor or pharmacist.

This medication is administered through an injection directly into the affected joint, typically once a week. Avoid using skin disinfectants that contain ammonium salts (such as benzalkonium chloride) when preparing the injection site. Your doctor may need to drain any excess fluid from the joint before the injection. The exact dosage will be tailored according to your specific medical condition and response to treatment.

Important: Hyaluronate is not to be injected into a vein or artery, as this could lead to increased side effects.

After your hyaluronate injection, it?s advisable to avoid putting stress on your knee (like jogging, playing tennis, heavy lifting, or standing for longer than an hour) for at least 48 hours.

Initially, some patients may experience increased pain and swelling in the knee after the injection. Should this discomfort persist or escalate, contact your doctor immediately.

Adhering to the injection schedule is crucial?full therapeutic benefits may require up to three injections. Notify your doctor if your symptoms do not improve or worsen over time.

Side Effects

Common side effects might include pain, swelling, redness, warmth, or bruising at the injection site, as well as headaches. If any of these effects continue or worsen, please reach out to your doctor or pharmacist without delay.

Your doctor has prescribed this medication with the belief that the benefits outweigh any potential risks. Many individuals do not experience serious side effects while using this treatment.

However, if you encounter severe side effects such as back pain, significant headaches, rapid heartbeats, fever, or tingling sensations, seek immediate medical attention.

While serious allergic reactions to this medication are rare, it is important to get emergency help right away if you observe any signs of a severe allergic reaction?such as rash, itching, swelling (especially of the face, tongue, or throat), severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing.
