What forms is this medication available in?Each white scored tablet, branded as "ZADITEN," contains 1 mg of ketotifen fumarate. Inactive ingredients include calcium hydrogen phosphate, magnesium stearate, and maize starch.
TabletsIn addition, the strawberry-flavored syrup offers 1 mg of ketotifen fumarate per 5 mL. Non-active ingredients in the syrup comprise alcohol, citric acid, methyl-p-hydroxybenzoate, propyl-p-hydroxybenzoate, sodium phosphate, sorbitol solution, strawberry flavoring, sucrose, and water.
Syrup Are there any special warnings or precautions?Before starting Ketotifen, ensure your doctor is aware of any medical conditions, allergies, current medications, and if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as these factors may impact your treatment plan.
For individuals with diabetes, please note the syrup form contains 4 grams of carbohydrates per 5 mL. Rare instances of low blood cell counts have been observed in patients taking both antidiabetic medications and Ketotifen?consult your doctor if you have any concerns.
Diabetes:Ketotifen may cause drowsiness. Parents and guardians should monitor children for drowsiness when starting treatment, and children should refrain from engaging in potentially dangerous activities until the effects of the medication are fully understood.
Drowsiness/Revised Alertness:When initiating Ketotifen, do not abruptly stop existing asthma treatments (such as b2-agonists like salbutamol, sodium cromoglycate, or corticosteroids like beclomethasone, budesonide, and fluticasone). Always follow your doctor?s recommendations.
Other Asthma Medications:For individuals with a history of seizures, Ketotifen may increase the risk of seizure activity. Discuss with your doctor how this medication could affect your condition and whether any special monitoring is necessary.
