    • Important Precautions Before Using Strattera:

    Avoid using Strattera if you:

  • Are allergic to atomoxetine or any other components (see section 6 for details)
  • Have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI), such as phenelzine, in the past two weeks, as this combination can lead to serious side effects or even be life-threatening. A minimum of 14 days should elapse after stopping Strattera before starting an MAOI.
  • Suffer from narrow-angle glaucoma (elevated eye pressure)
  • Have severe heart conditions that may worsen due to increased heart rate or blood pressure caused by Strattera
  • Experience significant vascular issues in the brain, such as a history of stroke or aneurysm
  • Have a tumor of the adrenal gland (phaeochromocytoma)

    • If any of these apply to you, please refrain from taking Strattera. Consult with your healthcare provider or pharmacist for guidance, as Strattera may worsen these conditions.

    Warnings and Considerations:

    Before starting Strattera, both children and adults should be aware of the following warnings. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist if you have:

  • Suicidal thoughts or tendencies
  • Heart issues, including defects or a rapid heartbeat?Strattera has been linked to increased heart rate and instances of sudden death in those with heart conditions
  • High blood pressure, which Strattera may elevate further
  • Low blood pressure, potentially causing dizziness or fainting
  • Unusual fluctuations in blood pressure or heart rate
  • A history of cardiovascular problems or strokes
  • Liver issues, which might require dosage adjustments
  • Psychotic symptoms (e.g., hallucinations or delusions)
  • Manic behavior or increased agitation
  • Aggressive feelings
  • A prior history of seizures or epilepsy, as Strattera could heighten seizure frequency
  • Mood swings or significant feelings of sadness
  • Uncontrollable repetitive movements or vocalizations

    • Make sure to inform your doctor or pharmacist if any of these apply to you prior to starting treatment, so they can monitor your progress carefully, as Strattera may exacerbate these issues.

    Pre-Treatment Evaluations:

    Your healthcare provider will conduct specific assessments to determine if Strattera is right for you. This includes checking your:

  • Blood pressure and heart rate before and during treatment
  • Height and weight, especially in children and teenagers throughout the treatment

    • Additionally, your doctor will discuss:

  • Any other medications you are currently taking
  • Family history of sudden, unexplained deaths
  • Any significant medical conditions (like heart issues) in you or your family

    • Providing comprehensive information will allow your doctor to evaluate the appropriateness of Strattera for your treatment plan. Further medical evaluations may also be recommended before initiating the medication.
