Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1), also known as Somatomedin C, is a hormone that closely resembles insulin in structure. It plays a pivotal role in growth during childhood and exhibits anabolic effects in adults, making it essential for muscle development.

IGF-1 is one of several key growth factors necessary for healthy human development. While primarily synthesized in the liver, it is also produced in various tissues throughout the body.

This hormone consists of 70 amino acids and, similar to insulin, features an A and B chain linked by disulfide bonds, alongside a C peptide region containing 12 amino acids.

USAGE

Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1) is integral for healthy bone and tissue development and has the remarkable ability to lower blood sugar levels. It specifically targets fat cells, enhancing fat metabolism, which promotes lean body mass while reducing fat. These qualities are particularly appealing to athletes and bodybuilders. Increased IGF-1 levels typically lead to weight gain that is largely attributed to muscle accumulation rather than fat.

Favored among bodybuilders and fitness enthusiasts alike, IGF-1 supports quicker recovery times post-exercise and boosts energy levels during workouts.

IGF-1 injections are often recommended for both adults and children diagnosed with growth hormone deficiencies. This hormone is rich in vital amino acids that can assist children experiencing delayed growth and can also benefit adults who have insufficient levels.

Research suggests that the anabolic effects of IGF-1 stem from its ability to reduce protein breakdown while enhancing protein synthesis in skeletal muscle. This may result from IGF-1?s direct action on muscle tissues, aiding in the healing of skin burns and other tissue irregularities.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

IGF-1 is naturally found in human blood and primarily regulates the impact of growth hormone within the body, promoting growth in tissues and bones. It is produced in various tissues in response to circulating growth hormone.

IGF-1 stimulates overall body growth and exerts effects on nearly every cell type, especially in bone, cartilage, skeletal muscle, liver, kidney, nerve, skin, and lung tissues. Beyond its insulin-like actions, IGF-1 also influences cellular DNA synthesis.

ADMINISTRATION

IGF-1 is typically administered through subcutaneous injections in a fleshy area of the body, such as the abdomen. It may also be delivered via intramuscular injection.

ADMINISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS:

For safe injection, always use a sterile and clean syringe.

  1. Position the IGF-1 vial upright and insert the syringe into the center of the cap.
  2. Pull back the plunger to draw the appropriate dose (see 'Dosage' section below) into the syringe, then carefully remove it.
  3. Clean the injection site with alcohol.
  4. Pinch the skin around the injection area, leaving about 2 cm on either side.
  5. Hold the syringe at a 90-degree angle to the skin and swiftly insert it.
  6. Press the plunger down completely until the syringe is empty, then carefully withdraw it.

DOSAGE

For promoting lean muscle growth and fat loss:

RECOMMENDED DOSAGE:
  • Men: 40 mcg - 50 mcg daily
  • Women: 10 mcg - 20 mcg daily

IGF-1 should not be administered more than twice daily, and a typical dosage cycle lasts between 2 to 12 weeks. Children and adults prescribed IGF-1 for growth deficiencies should consult with a healthcare professional for tailored dosing.

POTENTIAL SIDE EFFECTS

Possible side effects of IGF-1 may mirror those associated with other growth hormones. These can include abnormal tissue growth (acromegaly), potential damage to joints, liver, and heart. Users may experience joint and muscle discomfort, headaches, and nausea. IGF-1 can also lower blood glucose levels, leading to hypoglycemia. Research has linked IGF-1 to an increased risk of certain cancers, including lung, breast, colorectal, and prostate cancers.
