Tesamorelin is a synthesized form of growth hormone-releasing factor (GRF), specifically designed to address the issue of excess abdominal fat in individuals undergoing certain HIV treatments?a condition known as lipodystrophy.

It?s important to note that Tesamorelin is not a weight loss medication and should not be used for treating obesity.

This injectable solution is exclusively intended for HIV-positive patients dealing with lipodystrophy, targeting the reduction of excess abdominal fat.

Usage Limitations:

  • Long-term safety and potential cardiovascular benefits of Tesamorelin have yet to be evaluated. Therefore, it's essential to assess the treatment's effectiveness by monitoring reductions in visceral fat through waist circumference or CT scans before continuing.
  • Tesamorelin is not approved for weight management and is considered weight-neutral.
  • There is no evidence that Tesamorelin improves adherence to anti-retroviral therapies in HIV-positive patients.

General Dosing Guidelines:

The recommended dosage for Tesamorelin is 2 mg, administered subcutaneously once daily. The abdomen is the preferred injection site, and rotating injection locations within this area is advised. Please avoid injecting into scar tissue, bruises, or the navel.

Reconstitution Instructions:

To prepare Tesamorelin, use the provided diluent. For a 2 mg vial, add 2.1 mL of diluent and gently roll the vial in your hands for 30 seconds?do not shake.

For comprehensive reconstitution guidelines, please refer to the INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE leaflet included with the Tesamorelin and diluent packages.

After reconstitution, it?s crucial to administer Tesamorelin immediately and dispose of any unused solution. If not used right away, discard the reconstituted solution and do not freeze or refrigerate it.

Administration:

Before use, visually inspect the reconstituted Tesamorelin solution for any particles or discoloration. The injection should only take place if the solution is clear, colorless, and free from particulate matter.

Tesamorelin should be injected subcutaneously into the abdominal skin, ensuring to rotate injection sites to different areas while avoiding any scar tissue, bruises, or the navel.
