Curious about how this medication works and the potential benefits it offers? Let?s dive in!
Ketotifen is a powerful antiallergic agent and asthma prophylactic, specifically designed to assist in managing mild allergic asthma in children when used alongside other medications.
This effective treatment alleviates asthma symptoms by reducing the body?s hypersensitive reactions to allergens?substances that can trigger sudden asthma attacks. By targeting these allergens, Ketotifen plays a crucial role in maintaining respiratory health.
Your healthcare provider may have prescribed this medication for additional conditions not covered in the standard drug information. Please note, some formulations may not be suitable for every indicated use. If you have questions about the reasons for your child?s treatment, don?t hesitate to consult with your doctor before making any changes to their medication regimen.
It?s important to remember that this medication should not be shared with others, even if they exhibit similar symptoms, as it may pose risks without a doctor?s supervision.
What formats does this medication come in?

Are there any important precautions or warnings to consider with this medication?
Before starting this treatment, it?s crucial to share any existing health conditions, allergies, current medications, and pregnancy or breastfeeding status with your doctor. These factors will help determine the best approach to your treatment.
Diabetes: If you have diabetes, be aware that the syrup contains 4 g of carbohydrates per 5 mL dose. There have been rare instances of decreased blood cell counts in individuals taking both ketotifen and antidiabetic medications. Consult your physician with any concerns.
Drowsiness: Ketotifen may cause drowsiness, especially in children during the initial treatment phase. It's advisable to avoid potentially hazardous activities until you understand how this medication affects your child.
Other asthma treatments: Do not abruptly discontinue existing asthma medications (such as b2-agonists like salbutamol; sodium cromoglycate; or corticosteroids like beclomethasone, budesonide, and fluticasone) when beginning therapy with ketotifen. Always follow your doctor?s recommendations closely.
Seizure risk: There may be an increased risk of seizures associated with ketotifen, particularly in individuals with a history of seizures. If you or your child have experienced seizures, consult your doctor regarding the implications of this medication on your condition and the need for any special monitoring.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Ketotifen is not recommended for use by individuals who are pregnant or nursing.
